Hi guys,
Some reading I do in the newspaper about the new CBA in the N.H.L. seems to me that for the future drafts, all 14 non-playoffs teams will have a chance to win the lottery (still with better chances for 30th than 29th, 29th than 28th an so on until 17th). I wonder how it will affect our draft, cause we're exactly 14 teams, and I think we don't want to give a chance to top teams in our league to win the draft.
Maybe it's still ok with our rules, in which we are saying:
There will be a draft lottery to protect the integrity of the league. The bottom 5 teams will participate in the draft lottery. The exact results from the actual N.H.L. lottery shall apply to our lottery. See Rule (11a) below.
I supposed the term "bottom 5 teams" prevent any other teams than thses 5 to win the draft but I'm not sure we really respect that in the past (2 years ago NJDevils won the draft, moving from 8th to 4th and we did the same in our draft).
Anyway, the writing "exact results from the actual N.H.L. lottery" must be clarify regarding to that I think. Another point about our way to do it in the past is that, not the way N.H.L. do it, we use the N.H.L. lottery to shape any round of our draft, instead of reshaping only the first round, like the N.H.L. did.

I'm fine with leaving it how it's been. Bottom 5 teams have a chance at 1st overall, if anyone outside of the bottom 5 teams wins the lottery, it remains with the team at the bottom of the league.

I think we should keep the status quo. If a team outside the bottom 5 wins the lottery, so be it, but for our league, if that happens, the worst team should get the #1 overall pick.

I agree....to be honest...whether a team tanks or not to get the last overall pick is a strategy....I pay my $50 to improve every year to try and win or place in the money and build a competitive team. If a team is willing to come in last place 5 years in a row at a cost of $250 to build quality depth then so be it. I agree with a lotto but only for the bottom 5 teams. Some of those teams aren't that good and need the draft to build. If any teams outside the bottom 5 win the lotto I kind of think they should stay put though....If the team who finishes 4th last stays put but the 8th last team moves up it doesn't really make sense in my opinion.

I like the bottom 5 lottery. I like the chance that the last place team might not get the pick.
Funny, It is amazing the difference in leagues. This league does not care about tanking. I quit a league this year because I was accused of tanking. I was not. Had a very good team that finished 3rd or 4th 3 years in a row. Had the same team this year but had a rash of injuries and some guys who were just not performing. All of a sudden I had 3 or 4 guys all over me about tanking. WTF, I am too old to argue with guys about fantasy hockey. So I bailed.
This league though is different. LOL Much easier than dealing with assholes all the time.

I got bitched at for "tanking" in this league. And I wasn't tanking, my team was just downright bad.

The only way to fix a bad team is ride out the storm, scour the waiver wire and make shrewd picks and trades when possible...everyone has value, you just have to find it....I think bottom 5 in the lottery is fine....

Hey, Happy to see that of the guys remind this thread Draft lottery is next Monday so I think we need to make it clear before. It seems those of you who posted something here agreed with bottom 5 teams only could win the top pick. Just to be sure, here is my two propositions to formalize that in our rules : 1.Previous CBA NHL lottery draft applies : winner of the lottery moves up 4 places maximum, so only bottom 5 teams could win the top pick
2.Lottery applies only to round 1, as NHL is doing
Like I said in starting this thread, proposition 1 clarifies what we did in the past. In 2011 NJDevils, 8th seed in the draft, win the lottery and moves up to 4th. We did the same in tour draft, Mud Ducks moving from 8th to 4th. So basically in our pool, tanking teams still garanteed a top 3 pick, mid-team keep a slight chance of a top 5 pick...and teams fighting for the win won't really improve anyway Proposition 2 make it in our pool the same way NHL do, like it always should by in my opinion. Maybe JR could make a poll or something like this see if it's ok?

Im cool with what we currently do. Just because new NHL CBA is different doesn't make it "correct"
