Those two sets of prospects ('07 & '08 - remember, we are treating '07 prospects as '08 prospects since our first season was a half season that didn't really count) can remain prospects for this year - next July 1st is when they are called up or cut.
And, as Molson alluded to, goalies have that fifth year of eligibility.

Sorry to keep dragging this out, I'm just still struggling with the wording... So next July 1st, if I have 12 starters, 8 bench players, and 15 prospects who are from 07-08... That total of 35 players has to be reduced to 20 on July 1st, correct?

That means you'd need to cut 15 players to get back to 28.

Sorry to keep dragging this out, I'm just still struggling with the wording... I understand, I'm not sure yet that I understand JR's answer. Bottom line, I think if we said that '07, '08 prospects are protect this year (4th year), we must NOT have to cut them on 2012 july 1st. Otherwise, it means that they are not protect this year and we just have to call"em up right now, don't you think so?

No, At the end of the season, this year. We will have until July 1st to either promote or cut any prospect still on our prospect team from the Jan. 07 draft and the 08 prospect draft.
This is how I am seeing it. I believe this is correct.
I went thru my roster yesterday to determine who I will have to deal with at the end of the year. Some of the problem I had is, if I got a guy in a trade I had to look up when he was drafted.
I did have one surprise.
4 years is official at the end of this season, it has not been 4 years yet. Maybe we can change the wording J.R. to say seasons instead of years. It is the same thing but it might read easier for us knuckeheads with limited high school educations (Like me)
Just a thought. I have one once and awhile.
