Hi guys, I’m on JR’s side about the pace of the draft. WAY TOO SLOW. I don’t know another way to do it other than face it and get it done faster, each of us. IMO, 12-hours rule is there to prevent cases where we’re not able to make a check on the site (we all have a life outside Fantasy hockey ), not for using plenty of it to make a pick. Next weekend it’s Canada Day (Friday) and Independence Day (Monday) so it’ll be hard for some of us to be active, we understand that. But sometime we saw that the guy set to pick is loged in, and instead of picking a player, he loged off and seems to use his “12-hours” time to wonder about his pick. It was the same thing last year, we took close to 3 weeks to complete the draft. I did my last 4-5 picks while on vacation with my kids, having fun with them but always waiting for a text message from Trevor on my phone (thanks again Trevor!) to tell me I was on…so, I needed to find a computer access – not really easy while in camping – take a look at the last players picked and posted mine. Not funny. In my mind the prospect draft is a HUGE fun part of the pool, but doing it at this pace is a real turn-off for me. We all know now that the draft is on course (14 members active in the last 24 hours) so move on. When you’re close to select, do a short list of your possible picks and take your BPA when it’s your time to pick. HF

just trade up so you can pick a few guys now, then not pay attention for two weeks and make a couple 6th round selections ;D

Totally with you. We should change the 12hr rule next season. I'm away right now for a week.. and I've made an effort to come on often. And we're not even half done.

I absolutely agree.
I can also understand wanting to trade away a pick, ESPECIALLY in this draft, when you don't know who to pick.
I just think that if you're unsure who you want with your next pick... You should be trying to trade it away BEFORE it's your turn. If you can't figure something out, then just do your best to find the best fit for your team.
Like Superchinois said, a lot of us have been logging on more than usual to try and check in with the draft... We should try and be considerate of that too.

Does anybody else receive emails for PMs? I made my profile so that I get an email, which then goes to my phone, for when I get a PM. just thinking if more people check this, then instead of JR posting "Rats up to pick" we can just PM the guy who's next to pick and they get notified right away.

Well some people are at work and simply unable to check anything until they get home. Or if they're able to glance at the hockey pool... Maybe don't have a list of prospects ready to draft. So either way, during the afternoon I'm not really expecting much to get done.

I don't know about the 12hr rule because I don't know what everyone's situation is.
But I agree this is slow.

Well, since it's my pick now and I've bothered everyone so much. I will go ahead and make a pick. I must apologize that I have a job and sometimes work quite long shifts (today 15 hours). I just got home and will end your pain.
I think it would be best since I cannot commit to this pool like the rest seem to be able to, that I just get my money back for the season, and bow out. I don't think it will be hard to find a replacement as I think I've built a decent team.
Again I apologize to all of you that I ruined your experience. Two picks and I've been bitched out twice...Guess I don't fit...

I don't really think it's a huge deal. If anything people griping about picks taking too long just goes to show how active and excited our league is. I don't think any comments were directed at you, since I'm fairly confident you weren't the only person we're waiting on, haha. No reason to quit the league, just start looking at who you want to draft next!

I'm in four leagues like this - in one the draft is over already, in another we have about six picks left (this is a ten-round draft), and in the other we are in the fourth round.
I know that we are technically in no rush - but this is pretty bad.
I only have one pick (a fifth rounder), so if you aren't going to be on, feel free to send me a short list.
Steve - I don't think anyone is trying to single you out, don't sweat it.

What is the F--king hurry? The season does not start for 3 more months.
I want to move the draft to Sept. I am in no way ready or into this right now. It is summer for christ sake.
That is my solution, move the G.D. draft to the fall when people are around and ready to be into hockey again.
Sorry for the sligh rant. These posts get to be somewhat of a joke after awhile. Hurry up for no G.D. reason other than to get it done.

Well, that si what I meant - how can I support changing the rule when I do not know everyone's situation?
You want to take your time, go ahead! I'm unemployed again so I am not in a hurry....

It is summer for christ sake. That’s my point. Right now it’s summer time and not really hockey time for me too but I try to be ready to pick because the draft is set to be done now and I want to enjoy it. So that’s why I’m a bit in a rush cause I know I’ll be out all the weekend, and out all the week of July 10th in vacation, and so on. I was hoping to be able to set the draft by myself instead of giving a list while I’ll be out. So moving the draft in september is fine with me and it could take any time you think you’ll need to pick. Sorry if the opening PM of the thread seemed a bit hard for some of us, on my side I’m happy to see it gave us some interesting views about the draft. Steve, I’m glad you found time to share your feelings with us .

My point also is this is just a hobby for me to have some fun on my spare time. This time of year, spare time is at a premium.
Either pick a day and we all sit down and get it done...or deal with the way it is. I deal with whining all freaking day at work, I don't wanna deal with it here. If that's the way it's going to be, then I'd prefer to move on.
Christ, end of June, beginning of July around a long weekend
My Real Life comes #1, this pool is aways down the list...
If people can accept that, we'll move on, if that's an issue..I'll move on!

I agree who cares? We have three months until the season starts, yea it would be fun if we could all get in a room, draw up a draft board, drink some beer, and have a draft. Since we live all over North America that’s not going to happen. As long as we get it done by the start of the season that’s all we need to do! The draft in this league has always been slow like this even the first one where we all set a date and did it. I kind of like the big window it gives you a chance to see where the draft is headed. IE. If you notice everyone is picking up Defense early you may want to change up your draft plan to grab one while there still available. I know that I was really hoping to pick up Ryan Murphy with my 9th overall, but when he was taken 7th I would have looked to move some picks. I didn’t feel like I could do that due to everyone being pissed that the draft was taking so long. Everyone needs to relax a bit and let guys draft the way they draft to do what’s best for their team. Taking some time has no negative impact on anyone!

I'm on the side to speed this up. Everyone is in a different situation with some people having access to a computer more than others during the day. That is why there is the 12 hour time limit - so people don't get skipped for not being able to come on during the day. My issue is when people come on and see it's their pick - and don't pick. There are some circumstances in my other leagues where people are in discussions with that pick and wait - but for an hour or two at the most. The 12 hours isn't there so you can sit on your pick.
I like the draft in the summer. Fantasy hockey is slow at this time and it gives the league a little excitement in these months.

I also think that where players are drafted would change quite a bit between now and September. If that's a good or bad thing I don't know, but I'm sure that by September there will be a few guys Ill have wished I had or hadnt drafted.

I think it boils down to this:
1. Understand people have different work schedules/family schedules/computer access. Some guys are going to take longer, but that's okay. 2. That being said, if you log in, make your pick or at least update us saying you're looking to move your pick. 3. There is technically no rush - it's the summer - but still do your due diligence to be ready when your pick is coming up. 4. I don't like a September draft - when the NHL drafts, it's not like they get to see how these kids fair in NHL training camps, workout over the summer, etc. Drafting around this time is also fun for me personally - season is over, but we have the NHL Draft and Free Agency to add some spark.

I work all day and am doing this now on my lucnch hour. I see all these trades for picks and what not and it happens so fast I don't have time to do the same. And with you guys in such a rush, I'm losing out on opportunities to improve my team. I also come on and then leave cause I can't be on all day!!! When I get home after 9 hrs I family too to attend to. Besides all that I feel I'm pretty active. So I don't understand what the rush is. I'm in other leagues too and none of them are in the 2nd round yet. You guys need to chill out!!!! gotta run boss is over my shoulder.................
